LETTER
FROM THE KINGSMAN EDITOR -- Yelena Mandenberg Welcome
back to school, Brooklyn College students. I know that the first month of
school is always the hardest, having to readjust your schedules and re-learning
how to cope with the amount of assignments most of you inevitably have. I am
the new Editor-in-Chief of the Kingsman newspaper, and my staff and I have
been working very hard these last few weeks to make sure you as students have a
campus newspaper that provides articles that are of interest to you, your
education, and your college experience. I
joined the Kingsman last year as the Associate Editor. My job was to work with
new writers and help them develop stories and their own writing styles. We had
quite a few stories that were exclusive to the Kingsman last year, and this
year we hope to continue the pattern of being a hard-hitting quality
newspaper. Writing
for the Kingsman and working with writers has been an amazing experience.
Journalism, to me at least, is a field that will force you to become as close
as you ever will be to the spirit of the world. Journalists, even those who
are just students at Brooklyn College, are also detectives, historians, interviewers,
and analysts. Journalism is one of
those fields that can take you wherever you want to go, and can even help lead
you into a different career path. It can be intimidating at first, but ask
anyone who has ever written for the newspaper, it is one of the most fun and
worthwhile experiences to have, especially in college. With that being said, I encourage all of you who
are even the slightest bit interested to join the Kingsman. We need students
who are eager to write for us. We also need photographers and copyeditors. Being a part of the newspaper really gets you
involved with Brooklyn College and throws you into the atmosphere. Plus, being published in a real newspaper is
something that will look amazing on your resume, and when you can come in with
a portfolio of published clips, you are sure to impress people no matter what
industry you wind up working in. If you or someone you know is interested in
joining the Kingsman please e-mail thekingsmannewspaper@gmail.com, or stop by
our office in 118 Roosevelt.
Additionally, I would really love to see student involvement with the
newspaper, so even if you find yourself too busy to write for us this semester,
do not be shy to pass on story tips and ideas, comments, suggestions, and
especially feedback. You can e-mail your comments to us, or drop them in our
mailbox next to our office. I really hope to see some of you get involved or
sending in feedback.
In turn, my staff and I will continue to provide you with the Brooklyn
College news you want to know and need to know. Thank you for picking up and reading this
week’s issue of the Kingsman, and make sure to pick up a copy every Monday. ###
